This ancient-style Tibetan bracelet is fashioned from the stem of the traditional Chinese medicinal plant ji xue teng (Latin name caulis spatholobi). When making the bracelet, which is an artisan craft, the woody stems are harvested in autumn and winter, the branches and leaves are removed. The wood is then dried, sliced, bent and formed into the shape of the bracelet. Metal accents, such as pendants, rings and caps depicting popular themes such as lotus leaves and proverbs are added to provide the finishing touches. Even if you aren't keen on the medicinal properties of the wood, its rich luster and silver accents make it an attractive accessory in addition to being a lovely handmade object and a part of Tibetan heritage.
