The kalimba is a traditional musical instrument from Zimbabwe, whose roots go back thousands of years, and which consists of a wooden board with attached staggered metal tines. Often referred to as a 'thumb piano', it's played by holding the instrument in your hands and plucking the tines with your thumbs. Known originally as 'mbira', it has evolved gradually throughout the millennia, from a bamboo-tined instrument from west coast of Africa about 3,000 years ago to today's version. The kalimba first became commercially popular in the United States in the late 1950s. It gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s thanks to rock musicians who played the kalimba on stage alongside the electric guitar and bass. Stripped of all the amps and high-tech, the kalimba continues to be a popular musical instrument throughout Africa.

The kalimba is an easy and delightful instrument to play. All you need to make a sound and play a song are your two thumbs. Since it's easy to learn, it's perfect for beginning musicians and children to explore and cultivate their musical talent. The high-quality koa wood produces a comforting, warm sound which only natural wood can create, while the excellent craftsmanship and accurate tuning of the product deliver a clear, crisp sound and tones.

Start having fun making music with an excellent and compact instrument today.
